Just Keep Swimming

You know what you gotta do when life gets you down?
Just keep swimming
Just keep swimming
Just keep swimming swimming swimming
What do we do we swim, swim, swim
OH HO HO How I love to swim
When you WAAAAAANNTTT to swim you want to keep on. . .

Yes, this is a Dory quote from FINDING NEMO, I rarely quoting much Disney stuff. . .but I really like this. Obviously for several reasons. I LOVE swimming for one and the other is just the concept itself is fabulous! Just keep swimming sounds easy enough, but when we are faced with challenges that seem too difficult to overcome we can seem overwhelmed and defeated. Well, at least I have plenty of times in my life where I wanted to 'stop swimming & let the water's current take me. To let my weak body and my broken spirit give in. During those times however, I 'just kept swimming'. I pushed through, even if it was at such a slow pace that it hardly seemed like I was 'swimming' at all. I was still swimming. I couldn't always swim strong. . . so at times I just had to tread water to survive until I could swim some more. It is a goofy analogy I guess, but it rings true. If we quit swimming then we will drowned. If we drowned physically or emotionally we still drowned.

If you know much about swimming and the different type of strokes then you might see where I am going with this. . . There are four common strokes associated with swimming: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and crawl stroke. Breaststroke and backstroke are considered ‘rest’ strokes; crawl stroke, also known as freestyle, and butterfly are known as ‘power’ strokes. A rest stroke uses less energy to travel the same distance, however; it takes longer to achieve this distance. A power stroke uses more energy and covers greater distances in less time. The sidestroke and elementary-backstroke are two more rest strokes used in swimming. Each of these are not used competitively, but instead are taught to beginners to help them understand all aspects of swimming. ( The swim instructor in me is loving this post by the way!)

Okay, so here is where I am going with this information. . . Like swimming, we can apply 'power' strokes to our lives when we are determined and have the ability to 'swim' using the extra energy to accomplish our goals in life faster. However, don't forget you have 'resting' strokes as well. This is what can enable us to 'keep on swimming'. We can switch to a stroke that will conserve energy and yet still get us where we are going. We do not have to stop swimming. We simply have to utilize our variety of strokes. Personally my favorites happen to be the Breast Stroke (resting stroke) and the front crawl (power stroke), so I alternate between those two. So when applying it my 'life' it is kinda the same. I have a fast and steady and slow and steady. Once in a while I thrown in an elementary back stroke or challenge myself with a butterfly stroke. Either way I find a way to just keep swimming.

I've always loved that line from Dory. And I always hear her voice when anyone says it, or even mentions swimming :)

Great post!

My Testimony

It's hard to put into words how I feel toward my Heavenly Father and the Savior. I have so many reasons to be thankful for what I have gone through & endured. Because of my trials in life I have gained a strong testimony of Faith. I have always had Faith in the Lord and in Prayer. As I faced the decision to get a double lung transplant I had to rely on faith to make the choice.....By listening to the spirit, I was guided to Pittsburgh where my life was saved. I believe prayers are answered. I have always tried to follow the philosophy of this: If I do what the Lord expects of me, he will give me what I want & need. That has always worked for me. I Believe in MIRACLES..........My life on this earth is a miracle- I prayed on my knees for years to be healed from my lung disease. I knew that through a priesthood blessing (if it was God's will) I could be healed. So many times I thought he would heal me instantly...my faith was tested as I continued to get sick and no cure was in my future. I turned to prayer....I talked to my Heavenly Father, I cried to him and he heard me and he healed me by guiding me to Pittsburgh and guiding the surgeons hands. I learned humility, and thankfulness. I realized that we need others to lean on and we are supposed to strengthen each others testimonies. I learned that the hardest things we'll do are usually the greatest blessings in our life. I was able to experience a lot of things during surgery and I know I had comforting angels in my ICU room. THe Lord knows each of us by name and he will never leave our side. We need to remember to stay close to him and have Faith that he is watching over us. I know this for a fact! I know that following the gospel will bring us true happiness- the world will tell us otherwise, but I know I am truely happy & living the gospel has brought me that. Amen
