Voc Rehab Evaluation

Today I met with a guy from a vocation rehab evaluation company. Basically he gathered information and had me do some basic testing to evaluate my level of comprehension. Well, needless to say. . . I was some pretty basic tests and I was surprised at how difficult some of them were for me :) Especially the BASIC math.  However, I know math is my weakest ability.  But even some of the other stuff that I KNOW I learned in elementary/middle school was hard to recall. In my defense I have been out of school now for like 14 years :)

The evaluation also consisted of me reviewing and determining my interests and what careers fall into the categories that I show interest in.  I was not surprised at all at the results. I am not an undecided personality. . I'm the opposite, I know what I like and I know what I am good at. My results came back with HIGH scores in the Arts-Professional, Arts-skilled, Service-professional and  Service-skilled. So basically the jobs/educations I am interested in all fall under those catagories.

#1 Arts-Professional includes actor/actress, comedian, fashion designer, drama, music & art teacher, interior design and painter/sculptor.
#2 Arts-Skilled includes graphic designer, advertising designer, sign painter, pottery, crafts, floral designer and photography.
#3 Service-Professional includes athletic trainer, health educator, recreational therapist, many aspects of teaching, Art Therapist, caseworker, nurse, physical therapist, Pediatrician (haha), oooh also plastic surgery! It also includes most psychology careers.
#4  Service-Skilled includes Aerobic instructor, Yoga instructor, tour guide, animal control worker, cosmetologist, flight attendant, ooh hey it lists 'wig stylist', also physical therapist, nursing, police officer, FBI special agent, paramedic, and the best one is body guard. lol.

That's not a complete list of all the careers that are listed in each category. .but it gives you an idea of what kind of jobs fall into them. As you can see I have 2 distinct interests. One is Art and the other is Service. I guess those both describe me pretty well. I LOVE art/creativity and I like to use my talents to bring a service or help others around me.

I will meet with my rehab worker and we'll go from here and start putting together a plan and getting things rolling as to whether I will go for a degree or a technical college/certificate. But it was interesting to have my personality and my abilities evaluated :)

My Testimony

It's hard to put into words how I feel toward my Heavenly Father and the Savior. I have so many reasons to be thankful for what I have gone through & endured. Because of my trials in life I have gained a strong testimony of Faith. I have always had Faith in the Lord and in Prayer. As I faced the decision to get a double lung transplant I had to rely on faith to make the choice.....By listening to the spirit, I was guided to Pittsburgh where my life was saved. I believe prayers are answered. I have always tried to follow the philosophy of this: If I do what the Lord expects of me, he will give me what I want & need. That has always worked for me. I Believe in MIRACLES..........My life on this earth is a miracle- I prayed on my knees for years to be healed from my lung disease. I knew that through a priesthood blessing (if it was God's will) I could be healed. So many times I thought he would heal me instantly...my faith was tested as I continued to get sick and no cure was in my future. I turned to prayer....I talked to my Heavenly Father, I cried to him and he heard me and he healed me by guiding me to Pittsburgh and guiding the surgeons hands. I learned humility, and thankfulness. I realized that we need others to lean on and we are supposed to strengthen each others testimonies. I learned that the hardest things we'll do are usually the greatest blessings in our life. I was able to experience a lot of things during surgery and I know I had comforting angels in my ICU room. THe Lord knows each of us by name and he will never leave our side. We need to remember to stay close to him and have Faith that he is watching over us. I know this for a fact! I know that following the gospel will bring us true happiness- the world will tell us otherwise, but I know I am truely happy & living the gospel has brought me that. Amen
